DOOB TOUR 2009!
Day 1
July 27th
“Where are we going now?” Jimmy
“Fucking Bismarck!” Andy
On day one I woke up around 10:30 and did not get out of bed until 11:15.
I took a shower knowing that it would be the last one I would take for a few days … or weeks. We’ll see. I met my mom and dad for lunch at the bagel stop for a lil noon chow.
Then I went back home to look over my packing. Shirts, shorts, and but load of undies.
I met up with everyone around 2:30. Everyone being the 5 of us piled up into the Road Warrior, our van. We made some last minute stops and goodbyes. 2 bands 1 van + trailer and 5 kids with a bunch of crap on the road for 23 days.
the players:
Diabolic Octopus
Max -Guitar/Vocals
Andy-Bass
Jimmy-Drums
Ooblecks
Charlie-Guitar/Vocals
Jake-bass
Max-drums
We headed out for Bismarck with Andy driving, Jimmy and Jake rode along in the swivel seats, Max stretched out on the bench seat in the back and I rode shotgun and acted as navigator to bismarck. WOO WHOO for that job!
Once on the highway we hooked up Max’s Ipod to the stereo and the first track on shuffle was “Ideas for a Movie” by the Vandals. For the first 10 min of driving the car stereo proceeded to turn its self up and down by its self. Then we tested the radio hearing Rod Stewart. By the time we reached Max the problem had fixed itself.
Then came some ridiculous sing-a-longs from Andy when the Beatles came onto the Ipod with Ob La Dee Ob La Da. The drive was pretty relaxed, but i began to feel quite antsy the closer we got to Bismarck, I was finally on tour and I was fucking stoked!
Many of stupid jokes and conversations are to be made, I can already tell but I wouldn’t have it any other way. “Ah God Dammit! I died Again! ” - is a common phrase I think Jimmy will be saying a lot since he was glued to his Nintendo DS during most of the drive. When we finally got to Bismarck, we pulled over at a Menards to get extra van keys made. I stayed behind and rolled around on my board in the parking lot stretching my legs. We used Tom-Tom, a jolly GPS navigator with a thick British accent, told us how to get to the venue. Project Noise, a super sweet new place in Bismarck, however the P.A. was a bit poopy, but it didn’t seem to matter any. The space was really pretty much the best place I’ve ever been to in Bismarck. Matt the guy who runs the place, is a damn awesome guy and seemed to be way more worried about people showing up than I think I was. For the first few hours we sat around on the front porch with Arvin, Shawn and Alex of Scurvy Monster Squad, the band i play drums in who also was on the bill for the show, and B.S.ed. By 8:15 the show started with the first band, Vaginal Blood Fartz, a bismarck crust band that formed 3 days before the show, surprisingly they played a short and tight set. The Ooblecks followed and played 7 songs, by this time more people had showed up, and I think we went over fairly well
Then Scurvy Monster Squad played, I mostly battled the entire set trying to hold on to my drumsticks because my hands were sweating, so bad. We really are a dysfunctional band that was aptly named. Rough around the edges and tight until someone gets off beat, also known as me. Anyways we did have a but load of fun which is what is most important. D.O. then played a really solid set full of their new songs, and I really enjoyed it, however a number of people had left after Scurvy Monster Squad scared them away.
After the show I brought out merch and car-dealer-shipped a few kids into getting a few cds. Then we packed up all our crap, dicked around, said good bye to arvin alex and shawn and went to find some chow. The ever open Diarrhea Denny’s was there for us and boy was it gross. Now we are all back at the venue trying to catch some shut eye.. for tomorrow its Grand Forks!
